EPISODE 1: CYNTHIA TOONE

Cynthia Toone shares her experience leaving the military during the COVID-19 pandemic. She discusses the medical issues affecting her journey, missing her first semester of college, and her struggling finding work after separation from the military. Cynthia also explains how the FIU Veterans Affairs office helped her find support throughout her journey, manage her anxiety, and stay on track academically during a difficult transition period.

Farid Murad reflects on his years of military service and his experiences starting college later than most students. He describes losing the daily structure of the military and the struggle he faced during his first semester at FIU, especially with challenging classes and feeling out of place. He shares how support from the Veterans Affairs office helped him adjust to school life and continue to move forward in his life.
